Primitive Type isize
Expand description
The pointer-sized signed integer type.
The size of this primitive is how many bytes it takes to reference any location in memory. For example, on a 32 bit target, this is 4 bytes and on a 64 bit target, this is 8 bytes.
Implementations§
Source§impl isize
impl isize
1.43.0 · Sourcepub const MIN: isize = -2_147_483_648isize
pub const MIN: isize = -2_147_483_648isize
The smallest value that can be represented by this integer type (−231 on 32-bit targets).
§Examples
Basic usage:
1.43.0 · Sourcepub const MAX: isize = 2_147_483_647isize

🔬This is a nightly-only experimental API. (integer_sign_cast
#125882)
pub const fn cast_unsigned(self) -> usize
integer_sign_cast
#125882)Returns the bit pattern of self
reinterpreted as an unsigned integer of the same size.
This produces the same result as an as
cast, but ensures that the bit-width remains
the same.
§Examples
Basic usage:
1.0.0 (const: 1.32.0) · Sourcepub const fn rotate_left(self, n: u32) -> isize
pub const fn rotate_left(self, n: u32) -> isize

,
wrapping the truncated bits to the end of the resulting integer.
Please note this isn’t the same operation as the <<
shifting operator!
§Examples

1.2.0 (const: 1.32.0) · Sourcepub const fn wrapping_neg(self) -> isize
pub const fn wrapping_neg(self) -> isize
Wrapping (modular) negation. Computes -self
, wrapping around at the boundary
of the type.
The only case where such wrapping can occur is when one negates MIN
on a signed type (where MIN
is the negative minimal value for the type); this is a positive value that is too large to represent
in the type. In such a case, this function returns MIN
itself.
§Examples
Basic usage:
1.2.0 (const: 1.32.0) · Sourcepub const fn wrapping_shl(self, rhs: u32) -> isize
pub const fn wrapping_shl(self, rhs: u32) -> isize
Panic-free bitwise shift-left; yields self << mask(rhs)
, where mask
removes
any high-order bits of rhs
that would cause the shift to exceed the bitwidth of the type.
Note that this is not the same as a rotate-left; the RHS of a wrapping shift-left is restricted to
the range of the type, rather than the bits shifted out of the LHS being returned to the other end.
The primitive integer types all implement a rotate_left
function,
which may be what you want instead.
§Examples
Basic usage:
1.2.0 (const: 1.32.0) · Sourcepub const fn wrapping_shr(self, rhs: u32) -> isize
pub const fn wrapping_shr(self, rhs: u32) -> isize
Panic-free bitwise shift-right; yields self >> mask(rhs)
, where mask
removes any high-order bits of rhs
that would cause the shift to exceed the bitwidth of the type.
Note that this is not the same as a rotate-right; the RHS of a wrapping shift-right is restricted
to the range of the type, rather than the bits shifted out of the LHS being returned to the other
end. The primitive integer types all implement a rotate_right
function,
which may be what you want instead.

Wrapping (modular) absolute value. Computes self.abs()
, wrapping around at

pub const fn carrying_add(self, rhs: isize, carry: bool) -> (isize, bool)
bigint_helper_methods

and checks for overflow.
Performs “ternary addition” of two integer operands and a carry-in bit, and returns a tuple of the sum along with a boolean indicating whether an arithmetic overflow would occur. On overflow, the wrapped value is returned.
This allows chaining together multiple additions to create a wider
addition, and can be useful for bignum addition. This method should

words the unsigned method

.
This computes the integer q

if self < 0

If rhs > 0

if rhs < 0

🔬This is a nightly-only experimental API. (random

fn random(source: &mut (impl RandomSource + ?Sized)) -> isize
random
#130703)Generates a random value.
Warning: Be careful when manipulating the resulting value! This
method samples according to a uniform distribution, so a value of 1 is
just as likely as MAX
. By using modulo operations, some
values can become more likely than others. Use audited crates when in
doubt.
